Experience
April 1997 - present - Freelance Designer/ Illustrator (self-employed)
I work independently from home as a graphic designer and illustrator, combining traditional methods of illustration with digital media.
I tend to work with scratchboard for my black-and-white pieces, and a mixture of pencil, marker, and digital paint for colour work. I also use Adobe Illustrator to produce vector illustrations and logos.
Because of my extensive background in the print industry, I am skilled at designing just about anything that can be printed. I especially enjoy putting books together, creating album covers, calendars, menus, invitations and business cards.
October 2005 - November 2021 - Senior Graphic Designer
Print Factory Ink - Hamilton, Ontario.
I was employed at Print Factory Ink, a Westdale print shop.
My job included designing layouts, logos, and some illustration from scratch, along with preparing files for print. I designed for digital output, offset, large format, and web-based advertising.
Much of my work included business and personal stationery, signs, ads, banners, books, brochures, flyers, catalogues, menus, postcards, magnets and packaging. This position required me to be flexible, with a working knowledge of pre-press procedures, customer-relations, trouble shooting and problem solving skills. I worked on both Mac and PC platforms, with the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Acrobat Pro, Illustrator and Photoshop), along with Quark XPress, Microsoft Office Suite, and Corel Draw. The work here was extremely fast paced with very short deadlines.
